Poverty & Homelessness is Affecting People Worldwide. What Can You Do to Help Others or Yourself?
According to FeedingAmerica.org (formerly Second Harvest), 39.8 million people in America were in poverty in 2008. July 2010 reports from the Bureau of Labor and Statistics show the unemployment rate as of that date at 9.5%. In Houston, CSM Urban Mission estimates that at least 15,000 people are homeless. Of these 15,000, it is said that at least 1,500 are children - this in America, dreamland to some. There is no excuse for such conditions in a country as rich with resources as America. The situation is even worse for other countries - far worse.
