Jan Corn has written extensively on Indiana’s unemployment programs from the first extensions to the latest extension stalls that will affect at least 66,000 people, possibly leaving these people homeless, hungry and scared. Included in the link provided is a video explaining the latest unemployment benefits extension stall and what those in Indiana should do to get help. A number is provided to find aid and assistance for rent, food and utilities.
Unemployment is not limited to Indiana. It has swept across the nation and cares not a whit about race, religion or creed. However, there is help. At times like these people come together as a community and help each other shoulder the burdens placed upon them. One example of this comes from one woman’s request online and an entire writing community who stood up to support her.
R. Elizabeth Kitchen posted a challenge on Associated Content from Yahoo! to the writing community. The challenge was to write an article(s) about helping those in need during a set time period and for each article contributed she would donate a can of food to her local food pantry (up to 100 cans). Soon other contributors were offering to match her donations and give to local food pantries, shelters and food banks.
Writers from Associated Content came up with local resources for those in need, personal stories, tips for giving, favorite charities and different ways to help. Each and every article made a difference and an impact in helping someone. Over 200 cans of food have been donated to food pantries and books, clothing and toys as well have been donated to those in need.
